Elegant Affair- Desi Look

Friday, May 29, 2015

My sister in law's wedding was a magical affair. She and her hubby looked incredible and very happy mA. The look from that day that I decided to go with was from a color palette that I had not tried wearing before. I paired grey with royal blue and accented it with hot pink. The dress was designed by Sheetal Fashion Gallery by the amazing Sana Adil. The dress was A-line long kameez with plazzo wants and a velvet border. Whenever I have a look that I have to plan for, my biggest inspiration is of course the South Asian entertainment industry. I wanted to channel my inner 'disco deewani'. For those of you who aren't familiar disco deewani was the name of a famous pakistani song from way back in the day by Nazia Hassan. The whole tikka thing I left like I had done over and over, and wanted to do something different. I bought my rhinestone studded headband from Claire's accessories. My earrings and bracelets were from boutique shops in mid-town which I can't remember the names to at all. My hair and makeup was done by the most incredible, sweet, funny, dedicated, and extremely talented sister duo Warda and Dania. Here is a look at my look bellow.

Hello Spring -Desi Pink Mehndi Look

Monday, May 25, 2015

When my sister in law was getting married we had an amazing time!!! The whole mehndi event from start to finish was tons of fun. I think one of my all time favorite desi looks was from this day as well. I decided to wear an anarkali style salwar kameez in "carrot pink" and a plum contrasting dupatta and border. The neckline had silver embroidery and bead work. I purchased the suit from Sheetal Fashion Gallery in Rawalpindi and couldn't have been a happier camper. Sana at Sheetal was very detailed, precise, timely, organized and over all lovely to work with. My hair was a braided half up-half down water fall done by the beautiful Dania and makeup by the equally as beautiful Warda. She played up with pinks and purple's in my suit for my eyes and gave me a nice coral lip to tie it all together. If you have any questions feel free to comment below. Shine bright like a diamond. XOXO

Give me the Green Light

Tuesday, May 19, 2015

Since I have been married my salwar kameez inventory was only of formal, heavy, intricate work and designs. Such a horrible problem to have, I know, but I was yearning to get my hands on something simpler. My personal style is minimalistic with clean lines but also leave you transfixed on the beauty of it. So when I finally got my hands on this dress I was able to breathe in a sign of relief. The hunter green color is perfect for someone to wear as a guest at a wedding. The open back with drops of pearls hanging across is a great option for spring/summer as it gives to breathing air. The diamante kaam on the upper body draws your eyes in and the longer tail leaves an impact. The only thing I wish I could change was the cheap lace used on the sleeves and the fact that I wasn't able to wear heels at the time. For more information on where I got this dress feel free to leave a comment or message me. XOXO

Priyanka Chopra Inspired Look

I'm no sure whether or not you could tell but... I am a self-professed bollywood fanatic. Literally, if you were to to tell me Leonardo Dicaprio was going left down the street and Shahrukh was going right, I would RUN right. So I really do appreciate it when someone understands when I reference bollywood, especially if I am trying to achieve a certain look. When I went to Warda (who is an amazing makeup artist in the area) she understood me completely, and when I asked to get the makeup look Priyanka Chopra wore in the song Maa Da Ladla from Dostana she delivered. For those of you who are not familiar here is a link I found on Youtube:

Priyanka's Maa Da Ladla look

or here is an okay picture that I found online:

Granted she has my stream skin tone, and I'm quite frankly as pale as Casper the ghost I LOVED the look warda ceeated. I only wish I took more pictures but I was in so much of a hurry because it was one of my best friends wedding. My sole goal was to capture every moment of her because she was the most beautiful bride I have seen (I have seen my fair share of brides, so I'm going to ask you to take my word for it). Here are the few pictures I was able to take:

Remember to shine bright like a diamond. XOXO

Gloomy Forcast OOTD

Sunday, May 17, 2015

The weather has been amazing for the past couple of days but the pollen count has been really high aggravating my allergies. When the forecast called for rain today I rejoiced, as I was annoyed that I would have to pull out a jacket. I was elated that the pollen would soon wash away so buh-bye felica. Sorry, I'll try not to use such corney lines in the future. I wanted to wear something easy but nothing that would be too loud. Gloomy weather always makes me feel edgy so when I'm feeling that way I can't go wrong with black and white. I paired a cropped mini leather jacket by Lane Crawford with high waisted skinny jeans from Forever 21. I really hope high waisted skinny jeans aren't the next 'mom jeans' because post partum these guys are a God send. My braclet was a gift from my sister in law, from BCBG. I also wore a white sheer top by Lush clothing. My handbag is Saint Laurant Cassandre leather shopper in navy blue. I use this bag as my everyday bag because it's perfect to throw things into with my mommy duties. The zipper in the middle is a where I keep my important stuff. The color is still neutral enough to be able to pair with anything. Let me know if you want me to a what's inside my bag post. I'm usually always wearing flats so this introduction of Jeffery Campbell kitten heels mixes it up a bit. Shine your brightest XOXO

All about that...hair

Thursday, May 14, 2015

My hair is an animal. After years of roaming in the wild, probing in and out of its beast state, I was finally able to domesticate into what it is today. No joke I've had scrunched up mousse-invaded hair, blond, red, short, long and everything inbetween.

I'm not the happiest with where it is right now (I'm in the process of growing out my last color job) because I want to go back to my natural hair color for a little bit. I am however content with the length and my ability to tame it. I have wavy, coarse, thick hair and I would like to share my routine of how I am able to keep it in check. Let's start with biotin, biotin is a natural vitamin that allows for you skin hair and nails to grow. I take 1,000 mcg's everyone morning.

It's important to mention that I shampoo every other day with any sulfate free shampoo, I'm not too picky about my shampoo,I feel like they all do the same thing. I have learned that with wavy or curly hair you must keep it moisturizered and not having sulfur in your products helps ensure that the moisture isn't being blocked from the hair shaft. Once I week I apply hot oil to my hair for a few hours, generally after straightening it blowing out my hair. This is something I learned from my mother and dreaded when she would chase me around the house with hot oil. At the end of the day it's like they say 'mother knows best'.

Currently I am using Health HairPacs organic hot oil hair treatment from Harmon's beauty supply. I was reluctant to try because of the cheap packaging but am so happy that I looked passed that and tried it out. This stuff is LIFE CHANGING and I swear no one is holding a gun to my back making me tell you guys to purchase this stuff. It's just that good at hydrating and making my hair feel healthy.

Also before the weekend starts which is generally when I actually take the time out to straighten/blow dry/curl my hair. I like to apply Aussie's 3 minute miracle deep conditioner to my hair. This is my formula to success I hope I was able to be of some help to you guys. Shine bright!!! XOXO
