'Feature Friday'- The Luxurious

Saturday, November 28, 2015

Since launching Heera Diaries, I have been having lots of requests asking for advice on various South Asian wedding related topics. I know the feeling - sometimes you have a nagging question about the wedding or event that you can't find any helpful advice on anywhere and you have no idea who to ask. So you spend hours doing all the hard work, somehow come across great resources and wish you could compute out how to put everything together.

One of the best things about blogging is finding new designers and sharing their talents with you! I've been following The Luxurious (theluxurious786 on Instagram) and their traditional and luxe pieces always seem to catch my eye. With a substantial following on Instagram, I knew I wasn't alone in liking the brand. Here’s a quick spotlight on 'The Luxurious', their designs, and an outfit I wore to an recent event highlight them.

The Luxurious brand concentrates on formal party wear, semi formal, and bridal gowns for the South Asian market. The quality of the work is simply outstanding! The outfit I wore was pure fabric that felt amazing. A lot of times when I put on an net outfit, my skin afterwards ends up looking like I got into a brawl with a feline. It is definitely not the case here. The dress material and work was on point! From the beadwork on the front and black, to the heavy pearl work on the dupatta, to the beautiful floral delight on the gown. Everything was simply stunning. There are many vendors out there making clothes, and just as many replica designers. Many replicas lack in quality and design, The Luxurious pays close attention to quality, detail, and design. The gown I wore was similar to work seen by Elan, Faraz Manan, and other high end designers. They are not on their level but so incredibly close. I recommend trying them if you are budget conscious and aching to wear work inspired by your favorite desi designers. They are reliable and save you from spending an exuberant amount of money that a lot of times isn't needed. Keep that money for life's other things! Hope you enjoyed reading my post. And remember to always shine your brightest!! XoXo

Monochromatic Black Outfit

Sunday, November 15, 2015

A few years ago I found myself standing in front of my closet and realizing every single article of clothing I owned was black. I subconsciously gravitate towards it without knowing. So I decided nothing I bought henceforth would be black, just to step outside my comfort zone. Flash forward to today, and although not as intense as I see myself unintentionally wearing monochromatic black outfits. Honestly though black is EVERYTHING so why stray? I am going to add more color now that I realized history is repeating itself, but I am also not going to stop myself from wearing things that make me happy.
I had an awesome day in the city with friends and instead of double dating with them like we used to we had a play date with our kids. The kids enjoyed a day at Chelsea piers and us parents caught a mini break with yummy brunch at Dos Cominios. Subsequently, we started heading home, but my husband's sweet tooth kicked in and we found ourselves at Georgetown Cupcakes. The DMV girl in me happily obliged.

I wore a loose shift tank, leggings, and a Moto jacket all from Zara. My boots, however, were Nine West. I added layered gold jewelry to add some earth and detail. My bag is the Sicily bag from Dolce and Gabanna. All black everything in my book is perfectly alright. I'll add color in the summer if anything.

I think with clothes you should mix things up once and a while and wear things that make you happy and at the same time try new things. You never know by trying new things you may see yourself finding other styles that may make you happier. I hope you enjoyed reading my post.
Remember to shine your brightest!

Recently, I had a chance to sit down with Huda Shaikh, the creative force behind the jewelry brand Jawaahir. Based out of the U.S., Jawaahir designs have a unique perspective on transitional jewelry and traditional jewelry. Her line easily mixes the beautiful South Asian pieces with stunning gems and metals. Her amazing pieces have movement, style, and sophistication. Here's what we got to talk about:

Name:  Huda Shaikh (Owner & Founder of Jawaahir Studio)
Brand:  Jawaahir Studio – Designer Fashion Jewelry

Tell us more about yourself...

All our jewelry is 24k gold plated with semi- precious stones. We believe in combining modern elegance with traditional craftsmanship. We use the finest quality of materials, paying close attention to details. It’s important to me that our designs reflect the latest western and eastern fashion trends. As you’ll see in our look-books, Jawaahir Studio pieces can be paired with a blazer and jeans or a traditional sari. We are all about bold statement jewelry -- from necklaces to earrings to bracelets.

What was the inspiration/motivation that led you to start an accessories line?
Ever since I was young, as early as 12 or 13 years old, I was interested in fashion and design. I was fortunate to begin my career right after college in the heart of NY’s fashion district, working for well-known companies like Macys, & Victoria’s Secret. Working in the industry really allowed me to closely see the work behind popular brands allowing my passion for design to grow even stronger. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit so after gaining about 7+ years of knowledge and experience, I decided to launch my own jewelry line.

What were the first steps you took in launching your business?
I knew the first thing I had to do was find suppliers that could bring my visions to life. It was important that I worked with a team that I could trust that could create quality pieces. After months of research, I was finally able to decide which suppliers worked best for my brand. Today, Jawaahir Studios has suppliers in Pakistan, India & the UAE.
You are a businesswoman, and wife, how do you balance so many spinning plates? Do you believe that women can really have it all?
My husband and my family have always been very supportive about it. I am so thankful for them. Honestly, working on my business allows me to set aside life and focus on my creative side. I have so much fun growing my business and exploring different opportunities that it really doesn’t feel like a job. It’s really exciting watching something you’ve worked so hard on start as a hobby and turn into nearly a full-time job.

What celebrity would you like to one day where your work?

That’s a tough question! There’s always some new fashion muse in the media that I would LOVE to see wearing our pieces.I would have to say Blake Lively, Olivia Palermo and Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor. All three of them are beautiful, confident and have amazing style.

What is your favorite stone to work with?

Each stone has its own beauty Personally my favorite pieces are the ones with multi-stones. You can mix and match with just about anything.

What trends do you see coming up next for jewelry and Jawaahir Fashion?

Choker necklaces! We saw them all over the runway during Fall Fashion Week.

What's next for you and Jawaahir?

We are currently working on launching a Bridal Collection which we are really excited about.  We are hoping to launch it within the next few months.  Stay tuned!

I hope you guys enjoyed reading about this amazing jewelry line and yes designer! Remember to shine your brightest and just for you lucky readers I have coupon code you can use on the Jawaahir website. Use coupon code: HDFS for free shipping on the total order until 11/24

Rosie Huntington Whiteley inspired Date Night Look

Thursday, November 5, 2015

The other night my hubby called me before leaving work and decided that he wanted to take me out to dinner. Now it's been a quick minute since we have gone on one date night. I have an arsenal full of different outfits that I could wear, but, after a long day of taking care of my adorable son I cannot for the life of me put an outfit together. Thus instead I turned to my trusted Pinterest board for inspiration. The first and image I stumbled upon was that of Rosie Huntington Whiteley in a slouchy pant, cream loose blouse, nude heels and spiked Wang bag.

This look seemed like something I could easily put together without worrying too much or putting in the effort that I did not have. I modified the look slightly, adding a necklace and switching her nude heels for the sturdier black pair I had. I opted to go sans handbag and add a gold detail. I finished it off with a darker lipstick to add some color into the mix. Overall, I was quite happy with the look. Even more so, I think I'm going to turn to Miss Rosie for more inspiration when I'm in a funk. Outfit details: forever 21 slouchy pants, Zara heels, TJ Maxx blouse from Pleione, and Forever 21 jewelry.

Shine your brightest!

Easy fall OOTD

Tuesday, November 3, 2015

Today's weather was absolutely amazing it was a perfect fall day and I took full advantage of it. I decided to take my son to the park and run a few errands, catch up with some friends and neighbors.

I have been itching to wear this long jacket I picked up from H&M. I bought it when I assumed that we were starting to have a lot of in between the weather and I would be able to wear something lightweight, but the past couple weeks have been too cold for that. The jacket is constructed out of a very light and fluid material and its length comes down to mid thigh. Underneath I chose to wear a white T-shirt from where I pick up all the basics Zara. The skinny jeans are a mustard color mixed with a mossy green that I found in H&M as well. These pants, surprisingly go with so many of the different tops I have for fall.  I highly recommend picking up this pair because they are very comfortable and add a little color to color fall wardrobe. Lastly, my shoes were basic black patent leather lace flats from Vera Wang. I know my days of flats are numbered so I relished in one last opportunity to wear them. I hope you guys like this look there are many more outfits of the day looks to come.
