Pumpkin Patch Outfit-OOTD

Sunday, October 11, 2015

Fact: in my entire history of living I've never gone to a pumpkin patch. That is of course until this past weekend. Some may hate me for saying this, but I don't care for pumpkins: pumpkin lattes, pies, candles etc is not my thing. What changed my mind? My son, of course! I want him to experience everything, and not be deterred from something just because I'm not a fan. Although, he was unbothered and disinterested while we were there. We went with his one year old and three year old cousins who were having a great time and it was really cute to see. I decided to wear boots that I didn't mind getting dirty, thus I wore the black Laila Rowe ones I wore in a previous post. My tights are an awesome find from TJ Maxx because they are lined with fleece and keep you nice and warm. The jewel toned dress is from H&M. I did end up having fun and wanting to go again, perhaps for the haunted attraction at night. I can also see myself going again next year with my son and hopefully he will have more fun. Remember to shine your brightest! XOXO

FIT Fashion and Instagram Event

Friday, October 9, 2015

I recently got the opportunity to attend an event at New Yorks Fashion School of Technology that discussed the influence of Instagram on fashion. The speaker there was Vanessa Rosales from Columbia who is a Style Critic and Instagram enthusiast.

I attended with my sister in law and her friends and ended up having a great time. I enjoyed the lively discussion and taking an in-depth look on the topics they discussed.

The outfit I chose to wear was a black jumpsuit I found at Forever 21. Jump suits are on trend, if you don’t own at least 1 – you should get on it ASAP! The jumpsuit gives one the opportunity to look effortlessly cool without effort. And what’s even better is that the jumpsuit can be worn by women of all ages, and for all occasions. Another trend I partook in was the caped blazer, I usually don't like to mix trends, but because of the style of the jumpsuit I felt like it was okay to do so.

My shoes are my favorite Jeffery Campbell sling back kitten heel, perfect for city walking. Hope you all enjoyed this post. Shine your brightest XOXO

I'm really excited to feature my very first beauty feature this Friday! Mahwish Ali is an accomplished MAC certified makeup artist in the DMV area. If you don't know her (you've been living under a rock) get familiar with her! Her talent is amazing, and her work ethic is what makes her one of the best makeup artists out there. She also did my mehndi makeup ( my favorite look out of all 3 days). Let's get to know her a little more.

Questions/topics:
1- Tell us a bit about yourself...

My name is Mahwish, I'm 27 years old. I was born in Pakistan and have lived in the DC area ever since I can remember. I'm self taught in both hair and makeup. I do hair, makeup setting for mostly bridal clients. But I also do all different occasions and fashion shoots too.

2- What motivated you to start your getting into makeup?

I've always LOVED art! To give you an example, my senior year in high school my electives were Art 4, AP Art, Computer Graphics and whatever free time I had I was in the art room!  So after I graduated I wanted to keep doing something art related and that's when I started playing with makeup and hair and the rest is history!

3-What's your number one favorite look out of all the makeup looks you have done?

This is a hard one! Each of my clients has a place in my heart so I can't really say one is better then the other. But if I had too pick one here is the look that made me who I am today. Hira you were the bride that started it all!  I was working for MAC and had done brides hear and there but couldn't do many because I was working full time. You asked me to do her mehndi hair and makeup and after that this look traveled the world! haha A lot of people started asking me to do there weddings and so I took a leap of faith and left MAC to start my own business! Mashallah it has been the best choice I've ever made and I have you to thank for that Hira!

4-Where do you draw your inspiration from?

Mostly from social media and magazines. I'm a very visual person so I love saving looks I like for reference later on.

5-Which celebrity’s makeup would you most like to do?

I would love to do Lilly Ghalichis makeup because she not afraid to go GLAM and I feel like it would be so much fun to just let all my creativity out!

6-Name 3 makeup items that no woman should leave the house without?

-Lip touch up
-Powder foundation
-Eyeliner

7-What's the biggest challenge of your career so far and what do you envision yourself doing ultimately?

I think when I was first starting and trying to make a name for myself that was the biggest challenge. I see myself continuing to do what I love and in the feature maybe expanding to have employees and a studio inshallah!

Don't forget to follow her in the links provided above to check out her work! And remember shine your brightest! XOXO
